Mid-Shore Households
Published April 11th, 2025

This interactive dashboard provides a dynamic visualization of the average number of people per household in Maryland's Mid-Shore counties—Caroline, Dorchester, and Talbot—broken down by housing tenure (owner-occupied vs. renter-occupied). Drawing on data from the U.S. Census Bureau’s American Community Survey 5-Year Estimates (2010–present), the dashboard enables users to explore how household size has changed over time across different housing types.

Each county’s data is accessible via a simple toggle at the top, allowing for easy comparisons. Side-by-side bar charts clearly show trends over time for both owner-occupied and renter-occupied households. For example, in Dorchester County, renter-occupied households consistently have a higher average number of occupants than owner-occupied ones, with notable fluctuations in recent years. Meanwhile, Talbot County shows a narrower gap between the two housing types.

The clean, intuitive design makes the dashboard easy to use for researchers, policymakers, and community members interested in housing trends, demographic shifts, and local planning initiatives.

Key Features:

  • County toggle (Caroline, Dorchester, Talbot)
  • Time series comparison (2010, 2020, 2022, 2023)
  • Breakdown by housing tenure (owner vs. renter)

Whether you're tracking housing affordability, family size changes, or rental demand, this dashboard offers a clear and engaging window into the evolving household dynamics on Maryland’s Eastern Shore.
